Set in a future North America known as
"Panem", the Capitol selects a boy and a girl between the ages of 12
and 18 from each of the twelve outlying districts to compete in the annual
"Hunger Games". The rules are very simple: the twenty-four players
must kill each other and survive in the wilderness until only one wins by
surviving. The games are broadcast through the Capital and the twelve districts
to entertain and intimidate the population. In District 12, the teenager
Katniss Everdeen is a great hunter and archer replaced her younger sister
Primrose Everdeen who was selected as one of the representatives of their
district. This is a very important scene that took place at the beginning of
the movie because there has never been a volunteer in the Hunger Games. Katniss
was paired with Peeta Mellark as her male counterpart to take place in the
games to go against representatives who are stronger, bigger, and that trained
for this their entire lives. Katniss and Peeta come from such a different
background that is poorer compared to the other districts makes this a diverse
film. Now will the odds be in their favor of winning the Hunger Games?

Movie
I have watched a lot of movies, and trying to figure out my
favorite movie is kind of difficult but I keep going back to the movie Miracle.
The movie Miracle is based on a true story of one of the greatest sports
moments in sports history and captures a time and place where differences could
be settled by the Olympic Games. This is the best hockey movie of all time
which took place in 1980’s with Team USA. Herb Brooks was the head coach and
put together a team of college kids from all over the USA. In the semifinal
round USA played the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union was unable to score again
with USA in the lead, when Al Michaels a television broadcaster asks his famous
question ‘Do you believe in miracles? Yes!’ This was the year that Team USA had
won the gold medal at Madison Square Gardens. The movie Miracle provided
entertaining scenes throughout, with the reusing of several of the scenes from
the 1980 Olympic Games, showing what was actually going on during this time
period. It also provides a realistic aspect of hockey as well. At the end of
the movie there is a note talking about the actual Herb Brooks who took part in
the production of the movie, but never got to see the finished product because
he was killed in a car crash, “he never saw it, he lived it.” I absolutely love
this movie because I can relate to the feelings of winning and losing a game of
hockey because I grew up playing hockey. Also, know the rush of the game and
what it feels like when you are out on the ice playing, which I miss so much because,
I no longer play.

Journal 1
On September 24, 2012 was the Green Bay Packer Game verse the
Seattle Seahawk’s, which the Packers lost the game to horrible call made by
refs that replaced the NFL refs due to them being on a strike. David Maraniss
from the Washington Post wrote “Winning actually isn’t the only thing.”
Maraniss is a Packer fan and also roots for the Wisconsin Badgers; he was in
uter disbeif that the Packers had lost the game. The final play of the game
with time expired the replacement referee had to make the decision to call a
touchdown for the Seattle Seahawks, which caused the Packers and their fans to
be upset with the final decision.
Personally I agree with Maraniss. The next day after the game
was played and the touchdown still stood I re-watched the final play of the
game while I was bartending on ESPN. Everyone was talking about how it
shouldn’t of been a touchdown and the replacement referees need to be gone and
have our old NFL referees off strike. You can go ask anyone about that game and
everyone who is a packer fan will say that it wasn’t a touchdown. I would be ashamed if I was a Seattle
Seahawks player or a fan because there
is no accurate evidence that It was a touchdown or not . I will still stand
that it was not touchdown because I am a Packer fan and born and raised in
Wisconsin.

Believing Game Part 2
Discrimination
against women who play sports is completely ridiculous. Some women are almost
better than a male and don’t receive credit for what they are capable of doing
when it comes to athletics. Just because a woman is an athlete doesn’t mean
that they are in capable of making the sport look presentable and are actually
good at what they do. Women should have the same amount of respect as what men
receive. Yes women’s athletic are not as popular amongst our society but maybe
that would help people realize that women are just as good as men.
Believing Game Part 1
When it comes to
playing sports almost everyone thinks of a male as an athlete. But in today’s
society women don’t get as much respect as they should for playing sports.
People are very discriminating to women who play in a man’s sport, such as
girl’s hockey compared to men’s hockey. But today all sports that women play
are discriminated against, except the sports that are women oriented such as
volleyball. There are almost as many females as there are males who participate
in these sports. Women should be treated fairly and have the same amount of
respect as male athletes receive.
