O' Christmas Tree

One of my family’s traditions is going and cutting down our Christmas tree. We don’t use those artificial trees, which personally they drive me crazy because they always seem just too perfect compared to a real tree where there are imperfections. Fake trees my look nice but they just don’t seem like a tree. I know a lot of people don’t like the mess of an actual Christmas tree or have the piney smell of a tree either in their house, but that is one of the things that I love the most about the real Christmas tree. We may just have to vacuum a little bit more to clean up the needles don’t get tracked through the house, but that it’s a real tree that is going to need water. And for the imperfections of real tree are just the places where you can hang ornaments to cover up the bare spots making your tree look a little out of the ordinary.

Every year we go out to the Christmas tree farm called the Happy Holiday Tree Farm, we have gone there for years and always seem to have luck in finding a Christmas tree. There have been years when it takes my family a long time to find the perfect Christmas tree and some years we have better luck, where it only takes a short amount of time. Yes my family likes to argue who finds the tree and if it’s the tree we should get for our house. It can’t be too tall or too fat or too skinny, it has to be just right and every year we seem to find that perfect tree. I am very happy that I have grown up with that tradition of going out with my family and cutting down a Christmas tree that always looks amazing once it’s all decorated. Christmas is all about spending time with family and friends making memories, so if you have a fake or a real Christmas tree, have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!

Journal 6- Holiday Shopping

People are waiting in line to get into Best Buy on Black Friday.

So Thanksgiving was last week Thursday which means Black Friday shopping. Thanksgiving Day the ads are released, so those crazy shoppers can make their list of what they want to get at the different stores. Honestly, I am not that big into getting the best deals as I possibly can on something. For one who would want to deal with a bunch of people all at once trying to get what you want to get, that’s just crazy. And how people wait in line the night before so that they guarantee that they are going to get what’s on their list; I give people a lot of props for waiting in line, but my question is why? In today’s society we have a thing called the internet which makes this Black Friday shopping a whole lot easier. Thanksgiving Day my aunt was able to order some Christmas presents online before it even was Black Friday. I took my little brother to Wal-Mart and it seemed like the whole town of Wisconsin Rapids was there, we didn’t even bother to go in and see if we could get his video game. The whole reason why I go out on Black Friday is to see all the crazy people and what they are going after, I am one not to wake up early just to go and get something so I miss getting to see all the crazy shoppers. Personally I would rather do all my shopping online if I was capable; which I am now able to due to Cyber Monday, which is the Monday following Thanksgiving. Cyber Monday allows the same deals that are on Black Friday except they are on the stores. I was watching the news today (11/26/12) and they stated that Cyber Monday provides even better deals. So I am thinking that from now on I am going to say screw waking up early and dealing with a bunch of people, I am going to do all my shopping online on Cyber Mondays. And a bonus to that is that I can stay home and do all my shopping, plus they will deliver everything to my house.

Journal 3- Halloween

Halloween is celebrated around the world and known as the Eve of All Saints’ Day or All Hollows Eve but here in the United States it is celebrates Halloween on October 31st where children go door to door dressed up in costumes trick or treating Growing up I loved dressing up and going Trick or Treating on Halloween and you know what I still do minus the Trick or Treating part. When I was in elementary school we celebrated Halloween and were able to dress up in costumes having a Halloween party but in today’s society this is very scarce due to the schools political view on costumes and the religion of the students. Religion plays a large role in Halloween, which it is your choice to celebrate this holiday.
Halloween isn’t all about the trick or treating it also includes the watching of scary movies, listening to ghost stories, going to haunted attractions, and carving pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns. It amazes me how crazy people get into Halloween, like some people go full out by having their house decorated inside and out compared to some people who don’t even answer the door to the trick or treaters.

Hunger Games- Brief Screening Report

Set in a future North America known as "Panem", the Capitol selects a boy and a girl between the ages of 12 and 18 from each of the twelve outlying districts to compete in the annual "Hunger Games". The rules are very simple: the twenty-four players must kill each other and survive in the wilderness until only one wins by surviving. The games are broadcast through the Capital and the twelve districts to entertain and intimidate the population. In District 12, the teenager Katniss Everdeen is a great hunter and archer replaced her younger sister Primrose Everdeen who was selected as one of the representatives of their district. This is a very important scene that took place at the beginning of the movie because there has never been a volunteer in the Hunger Games. Katniss was paired with Peeta Mellark as her male counterpart to take place in the games to go against representatives who are stronger, bigger, and that trained for this their entire lives. Katniss and Peeta come from such a different background that is poorer compared to the other districts makes this a diverse film. Now will the odds be in their favor of winning the Hunger Games?

Movie

I have watched a lot of movies, and trying to figure out my favorite movie is kind of difficult but I keep going back to the movie Miracle. The movie Miracle is based on a true story of one of the greatest sports moments in sports history and captures a time and place where differences could be settled by the Olympic Games. This is the best hockey movie of all time which took place in 1980’s with Team USA. Herb Brooks was the head coach and put together a team of college kids from all over the USA. In the semifinal round USA played the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union was unable to score again with USA in the lead, when Al Michaels a television broadcaster asks his famous question ‘Do you believe in miracles? Yes!’ This was the year that Team USA had won the gold medal at Madison Square Gardens. The movie Miracle provided entertaining scenes throughout, with the reusing of several of the scenes from the 1980 Olympic Games, showing what was actually going on during this time period. It also provides a realistic aspect of hockey as well. At the end of the movie there is a note talking about the actual Herb Brooks who took part in the production of the movie, but never got to see the finished product because he was killed in a car crash, “he never saw it, he lived it.” I absolutely love this movie because I can relate to the feelings of winning and losing a game of hockey because I grew up playing hockey. Also, know the rush of the game and what it feels like when you are out on the ice playing, which I miss so much because, I no longer play.

Journal 1

On September 24, 2012 was the Green Bay Packer Game verse the Seattle Seahawk’s, which the Packers lost the game to horrible call made by refs that replaced the NFL refs due to them being on a strike. David Maraniss from the Washington Post wrote “Winning actually isn’t the only thing.” Maraniss is a Packer fan and also roots for the Wisconsin Badgers; he was in uter disbeif that the Packers had lost the game. The final play of the game with time expired the replacement referee had to make the decision to call a touchdown for the Seattle Seahawks, which caused the Packers and their fans to be upset with the final decision.

Personally I agree with Maraniss. The next day after the game was played and the touchdown still stood I re-watched the final play of the game while I was bartending on ESPN. Everyone was talking about how it shouldn’t of been a touchdown and the replacement referees need to be gone and have our old NFL referees off strike. You can go ask anyone about that game and everyone who is a packer fan will say that it wasn’t a touchdown.  I would be ashamed if I was a Seattle Seahawks  player or a fan because there is no accurate evidence that It was a touchdown or not . I will still stand that it was not touchdown because I am a Packer fan and born and raised in Wisconsin.

Believing Game Part 2

Discrimination against women who play sports is completely ridiculous. Some women are almost better than a male and don’t receive credit for what they are capable of doing when it comes to athletics. Just because a woman is an athlete doesn’t mean that they are in capable of making the sport look presentable and are actually good at what they do. Women should have the same amount of respect as what men receive. Yes women’s athletic are not as popular amongst our society but maybe that would help people realize that women are just as good as men.
